Why Name-First Matters

Capturing the contact’s name as the first question in the OTTO conversation enables personalization throughout the flow. Every subsequent OTTO message can include the contact’s name (“Thanks, [Name]! One more question…”). The Prepare Caller alert includes the name so reps call with context — “Hi, is this [Name]?” instead of a cold call.

Personalized OTTO conversations convert at higher rates than generic flows. Name capture at step one is one of the highest-ROI configuration changes you can make to any collector.

Setup

Select Custom Questions — Captures Name when creating your collector. The first question step (“What’s your name?” or your preferred phrasing) is pre-configured and locked to the First Name field. Add your additional questions below it in any order.

Name Personalization in OTTO

After step one is answered, use the {{first_name}} merge field in any subsequent message text. OTTO replaces it automatically with the contact’s answer. Example: “Thanks, {{first_name}}! What service are you looking for?” — if the contact said “Maria,” OTTO sends “Thanks, Maria! What service are you looking for?”
