Setting and Updating QR Codes (Dynamic QR)
How Dynamic QR codes work in TextingOnly — and how to update a QR code’s destination after it has been printed and deployed without reprinting anything.
What It DoesShows how Dynamic QR codes work and how to change a code’s destination after it’s printed.
Why It MattersYou can update the offer or flow behind a code without reprinting anything.
Best ForPrint, signage, and packaging where the QR stays put but the campaign changes.
What Makes a QR Code Dynamic?
A static QR code encodes a URL directly into the pattern. Once printed, it cannot be changed — the destination is permanent. A dynamic QR code encodes a redirect URL. The actual destination is stored in the TextingOnly platform and can be changed at any time from the dashboard. The physical QR code image never changes — only the destination it points to.
All QR codes created in TextingOnly are dynamic by default. This is a significant operational advantage for any printed collateral that gets reused across campaigns.
Updating a QR Code’s Destination
- 1Go to Entry Points → QR Codes.
- 2Find the QR code you want to update and click Edit.
- 3Change the linked Collector to the new campaign you want to run.
- 4Click Save. The change takes effect immediately — all future scans go to the new collector.
When to Update a QR Code
| Scenario | Action |
|---|---|
| Seasonal campaign change (summer → fall) | Update QR to new collector — no reprint |
| Collector rebuilt with new questions | Update QR to point to rebuilt collector |
| Same physical signage, new offer | Update QR — signage stays the same |
| New location opening with same template | Create new QR code (for attribution isolation) |
Frequently Asked Questions
Does updating the QR code break attribution for past scans?
No — past scan data is already recorded with the original collector assignment. Updating the destination only affects future scans. Historical data is preserved.
Can I redirect a QR to a website URL instead of a collector?
Yes — dynamic QR codes can point to any URL, not just TextingOnly collectors. Use this to temporarily redirect signage QRs to a landing page, phone number, or other destination.
