Setup, Shortcodes & Configuration

Easily integrate business SMS texting into your WordPress site. The free TextingOnly plugin adds a customizable “Text Us” button or link to any page, post, or your whole site — modernizing how you communicate with current and new customers. This guide walks through installation, account setup, and every shortcode option.

WordPressPluginShortcodeSetup
Free PluginThe basic plugin is free and downloads from the official WordPress.org repository. It connects to your TextingOnly account with an email and API key.
9-Step SetupActivate, connect your account, set up a QR code / link, sync, set button defaults, then place it — with a shortcode or a site-wide floating button.
Shortcode ControlThe Text Auto Attendant-> shortcode takes attributes for text, color, size, style, and icon — so every button matches your brand.

The TextingOnly WordPress plugin lets you add SMS texting buttons and links to your site in minutes — no developer required. Connect it to your TextingOnly account, set your default button style, and drop it anywhere with a shortcode, or float it site-wide. This guide covers the initial setup, the full shortcode reference, and the most common plugin questions.

Initial WordPress Plugin Setup

1
Activate the TextingOnly plugin
If already installed, activate it and skip to step 2. Otherwise install it from the WordPress plugin repository (Plugins → Add New → search “TextingOnly”), then activate.
2
Open the plugin settings page
Navigate to the TextingOnly plugin settings page in your WordPress admin.
3
Create a TextingOnly account
If you already have an account, skip to step 4. Otherwise create a free TextingOnly account and log in to set up your initial account details.
4
Set up a QR Code / Link
In your TextingOnly account, go to “QR Codes / Links” and set up your first link (phone number, initial message, etc.). One QR code / link — “My First QR Code / Link” — is preloaded in every new account. Click “Details” to view and edit it.
5
Add your account credentials
Back on the plugin settings page in WordPress admin, enter your TextingOnly account email and API key, then click “Save.” This lets the plugin sync with your account.
6
Sync your TextingOnly account
Click “Sync Account Details” under “Available Links/Buttons” to connect and pull in your available button/link options. Free accounts may have just one option.
7
Edit default settings
Set up your default button options: background color, text color, button style, size, the button text itself, and more.
8
Add the shortcode
Within your site’s pages and/or posts, add the Text Auto Attendant-> shortcode wherever you want a link/button displayed. See the shortcode options below to customize it.
9
Or display a button site-wide
Alternatively, display the default button (from step 7) site-wide. Choose where to place the floating button and when to show it (desktop, mobile, or all devices) so users can text you from any page.

Shortcode Options

The simplest implementation is just the Text Auto Attendant-> shortcode with no attributes — this renders the button with all default values. To customize, add any of the attributes below.

Plugin FAQs

Is the TextingOnly WordPress plugin free, or are there costs involved?
The basic version of the plugin is completely free. Using it requires a TextingOnly account, but there are no costs unless you decide to upgrade your plan to use more advanced features.
Do I have to use my own phone number with the free version?
Yes. The free version gives you access to the QR code and SmartLink system, but you must use a personal number for texting. If you upgrade your plan, you can purchase a separate number (or numbers) within your TextingOnly account to use for SMS.
Do I have to use my own phone number with paid versions?
No. If you upgrade your TextingOnly plan, you can purchase dedicated numbers within your account, eliminating the need to use one of your own numbers for texting.
Why do I have to confirm my phone number in the free account?
You must verify that you have access to and control of a personal number before using it with the QR code / SmartLink system to receive text messages.
What additional features come with an upgraded plan?
It depends on the plan, but all paid plans include dedicated numbers, access to textbots and other SMS automations, advanced reporting, and message scheduling. Advanced plans can add 1-to-1 and list-send messaging, language translations on inbound and outbound SMS, reply automations from outbound sends, autoresponders, and more.
I see a link to c.txtng.co — what is this?
The domain txtng.co (including its subdomains) is the official link shortener used with TextingOnly products.
